The SYMPHONIE D'UNE DESTINEE (c) - return to presentation

Symphony of Light Music twenty-first century, officially entered in the Directory of French symphonic twenty-first century July 14, 2011

Text of Denis Boissier, music lover and writer, on the concept of SYMPHONIE D'UNE DESTINEE in 4 movements:

Pierrick Poirier (b. 1955)
Symphonie d'une destinée (2009)
Based on an original idea by Jean Waterkeyn
Dir: Francois Rousselot

1- La Conception (6.33)
2- L’Euphorie (5.11)
3- Le Doute (7.05)
4- Le Triomphe (15.41)

A Trombonist by training, French Pierrick Poirier continued his training with various personalities from the entertainment world, was involved in several institutions, including the Théâtre Marigny and the National Theatre of Chaillot. He would perhaps never have composed a symphony in four movements had he not met Jean Waterkeyn who inspired the idea of a symphony that would describe the four phases through which necessarily pass any ambitious artist: la Conception -- l'Euphorie -- le Doute -- le Triomphe. But Jean Waterkeyn did not stop there. Because in France institutions do not pay much attention to classical music - that which pleases, not the "experimental" - he decided to find a way to fund this unique project for the "SYMPHONIE D'UNE DESTINEE (c)" to make it worthy of its title and its design. And the miracle was accomplished. In 2009 the Macedonian Radio Symphony Orchestra, led by the young and enthusiastic conductor François Rousselot discovered by Jean Waterkeyn, interpreted the work of Pierrick Poirier. The "SYMPHONIE D'UNE DESTINEE (c)" could have been subtitled" Meetings with Remarkable Men ": on the one hand a genuine composer who is offered a chance, on the other a talented young conductor with a great future ... and in the middle a modest and honest man, convinced that we can usefully dream. In the end: the creation of a sparkling French symphony in the midst of the artistic doldrums. Thus Jean Waterkeyn gives France a face worthy of its glorious musical past and Pierrick Poirier puts a smile back on its face because, with its many pleasant themes, its light and charming orchestration, and its extraordinary contagious optimism, the "SYMPHONIE D'UNE DESTINEE (c)" (2009) is a success. It's fresh, fast, with a touch of romance and a pinch of cinema (the work begins with a nod to Star Wars). Finally music that is successfully combating the gloom!

That in itself is already worth a milestone.
